This batik and applique quilt was a LOT OF FUN to quilt! It measured 80″ wide x 90″ tall and is shown here in the “top” stage.

In this photo I have the borders and corners quilted along with the 16 patch blocks. The blocks on this quilt measured 11″ square. The borders were 9 1/2″ wide.
Here’s a closeup of the 16 patch blocks. I chose to quilt the same single block pattern in each 16 patch block. The thread chosen shows up well on some blocks and not on others because the fabrics ranged in color from bright yellow to dark purple. This works out well because the fabrics get displayed perfectly. Batik lovers will understand!
The following pictures show the echo stitching placed around the butterfly and freehand meandering around the block. I finished the butterfly by adding ‘veins’? in black thread.
